What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a holistic healing method from India. It has been practiced worldwide for over 5000 years and is therefore recognized as one of the oldest health sciences in existence. It is based on the theory of the five elements: ether, air, fire, water and earth.
These five elements are divided into the three doshas:
• Vata – air and ether
• Pitta – fire and water
• Kapha – water and earth
For a healthy body and mind it is important that these doshas are in balance and that your digestive fire works well. Ayurveda is a preventive medicine that considers everyone unique and attaches great value to living in balance. When you take good care of yourself and know which diet & lifestyle suits you, you can prevent diseases. That is why a biennial detox is so important.
An MOT for your body
How does an Ayurvedic detox work? During an Ayurvedic detox you eliminate waste products (this is called ama in Ayurveda) and ensure a well-functioning digestive fire. This is also ideal to combine with the Intermittent Fasting Matchapolitan Lifestyle and the Intermittent Living Lifestyle .
Ama is the main cause of imbalance and imbalance can result in illness, we want to prevent this of course. If you have few waste products in your body, your body can react as it should react. Think of it as a glass lens through which you can see clearly. With a lot of waste products, you look through a lens that is dirty with butter. You see cloudy and therefore cannot react adequately. This costs your body a lot of energy and can lead to unpleasant complaints and allergies.
A good digestive fire (in Ayurvedic terms agni) enables you to digest well. Imagine you and your partner go to visit your sick sister. Your partner gets sick and you have no problems. This means that your agni is working well and your partner's agni could use some support.
In short: when there are few waste products in your body and your digestive fire is working properly, your body can function well so that you can enjoy life in balance!

Autumn is called the vata season in Ayurveda and consists of the elements ether & air, one of the characteristics is dryness.
The heat of the summer has made the fire burn so hard that it has also caused dryness. Compare it to a warm summer day where you forget to put on sunscreen. The result is: dry skin. Dryness in your body can be noticed by creaking joints, constipation and dry skin. With a Vata imbalance you will also feel restless, suffer from thoughts that are all over the place and experience insomnia.
By giving your body rest in the form of this mono-diet, you stimulate its self-healing capacity and cleanse your digestive system. You get rid of the excess heat and dryness and digest your waste so that your body comes into balance. In this way you can cope with the coldness and dryness of autumn and winter.
You also digest mental impressions and emotions during the detox, these can surface when you follow the mono diet and it is therefore recommended to plan rest on these days. Clearing out mental waste contributes to a carefree autumn and ensures that you are (again) happy with yourself.
Mung beans and spices
An Ayurvedic detox is characterized by the use of mung beans and spices. The focus is namely on maintaining and obtaining a good digestive fire. In this way all waste products can be digested well. You eat full hot meals so you do not suffer from a feeling of hunger.
Mung beans are green beans that have a scraping effect in your intestines. They scrape waste products loose and these leave your body through the stool. The word mung beans probably doesn't ring a bell, but when they germinate you get bean sprouts. You may be familiar with that. You use mung beans in mung bean soup and the one-pot dish kitchari.
