Ancient and yet unknown in our current Western society: the 'Gada'. This weapon, which has its origins in Hinduism and is associated with the God Hanuman, symbolizes strength, perseverance and dedication . Today the Gada is engaged in a revolutionary comeback in the fitness world , under the name Macebell . But what exactly is it and how effective is it for your body?
Steel Mace Flow and Breathwork play a central role in Timmy's training sessions, but also as EntertRainer with a clear mission: to help you on your way to the best version of yourself, your ultra version .
Timmy believes that body and mind are inextricably linked. Feeling good about yourself is related to feeling good about your mind. Health in all its facets is what he looks at.
Because hormesis is a fixed value within his approach and search for longevity , Timmy, in addition to intermittent fasting, also went in search of the highest quality matcha. This is how he came into contact with Cafe Couture and a connection was quickly made to inspire others to further spread his mission "Educate To Heal" .
From Persia to Egypt
In the 13th century the Persians used long bamboo sticks with a stone on one end as a weapon to defend themselves in battle. This clever addition of the stone - which thus caused an imbalance - gave the Persians an advantage in speed and effectiveness during battle .
In the Middle Ages we saw several similar weapons appear, which were grouped together under the name "Good Day" - which may ring a bell for some. And in Egypt too there are traces of the Gada to be found.
Within the traditional training methods in India the Gada has always existed. To this day, Indian wrestlers use the instrument to to strengthen muscles, develop their shoulder and core stability, and improve their grip strength .
In Western culture, a movement started a few years ago in America that focused on non-traditional fitness. They went back to basics: what were the movements that humans have always used? It was the case that the kettlebell and animal flow experienced a revival... And now the Macebell.
My personal quest for efficient training
Ever since my Masters in Movement Sciences, I have been fascinated by everything that has to do with functional training. This makes me constantly look for how to achieve the highest possible training efficiency.
I am moving away from seated, supportive strength exercises. Instead, I want strength, mobility, stability, coordination and fitness together in one workout , without losing training in function of our daily movement.
Through social media I discovered Leo Savage, an American fitness coach who specializes in Steel Mace. I was immediately captivated by this instrument and its flowing movements that performed it, included everything I was looking for in an intense workout. But the Macebell also provides
a meditative and relaxing effect on the mind .
The benefits of the Macebell:
- Balance in your body, both physically and mentally.
- Improved stability .
- Individual training wherever and whenever you want: in a club, outside under a tree or on the beach.
- Group training to awaken the strength and inner warrior within yourself, just like the Persians.
- The Macebell can be used for various purposes : as a relaxation to quickly recharge yourself, but also as an intense workout to strengthen every muscle in your body.
A workout with everything included
A Macebell workout is a varied workout with many possibilities, for example we work with the structure of the Steel Mace Flow.
For example, you can start with basic movements such as curls, rows, push-ups and presses . The great advantage of the Macebell is that the weight hangs on one side - the 'club'. The hollow bar ensures that you activate your oblique abdominal muscles extra with two-handed movements to maintain your vertical line.
In addition, you can also swinging movements in front and behind the body , creating the 'pendulum effect' with the Macebell. This ensures that you not only improve your core and shoulder mobility, but also your grip strength and balance by continuously alternating sides.
Finally, the Macebell also trains your lower body. You can activate your legs by adding squats, lunges and sideways movements.
The Macebells are available from a minimum of 4kg to a whopping 25kg. However, it is advisable to start with 4kg and build it up slowly...
"My goal is to show and make others feel how effective this instrument is
"for both the mind and the body."
